Why chelated Minerals
Mineral Chelates Make the Difference.
The term “chelate” traces its origin to the Greek word “chele”, meaning “claw.” Just like a set of claws wrapping around the metal, chelates form robust bonds with ligand molecules, rendering unique nutritional attributes.
Phytate as well as oxylates, prevalent in seeds, grains, and legumes, can bind to minerals like iron and zinc, reducing their absorption. This isn’t the case with chelated minerals, making them ideal for vegetarians and vegans, as well as plant-based supplements.
Unlike commonplace, inorganic minerals, mineral amino acid chelates emulate nature’s packaging, optimizing absorption for optimal benefits.
Differences between various types of magnesium.
Magnesium Bisglycinate Chelate
Often associated with health benefits such as maintaining a healthy mood and supporting muscle (body) relaxation. Superior bioavailability and tolerability.
Magnesium Bisglycinate Buffered
Buffered version, which combines the benefits of the superior bioavailability of
Mg Bisglycinate with additional potency through buffering with Mg Oxide.
DiMagnesium Malate (DMM)
Magnesium bound to malic acid forming a high mineral density, organic acid salt,
which is also well tolerated (Ashmead, et al., (2016).
Magnesium Oxide
Relatively low bioavailability, also known to result in laxative effects.
Often used as an antacid, not ideal for long-term supplementation.
Magnesium Citrate
Magnesium bound to citric acid. Increases fluid in the bowel (osmosis) and can trigger bowel
movements / motility. Relatively low bioavailability, also known to result in laxative effects
Magnesium Sulfate (Epsom salts)
Not recommended for oral consumption due to laxative effects. Mainly used as bath salt for
muscle relaxation through the skin.
Absorbtion of magnesium minerals forms is significantly better than competitive magnesium salts.
