The way we sit, stand, and move every day creates chronic tension and soreness in our muscles, compresses joints and nerves, and places excessive stress on our bones often to the point of causing significant pain and structural damage to the body.

Neuro-muscular somatic movement therapy

Neuromuscular somatic movement therapy is a breakthrough method for releasing accumulated tension, chronic muscular tightness, and retraining the posture and movement patterns that cause pain.

Most chronic pain, joint degeneration, and recurring injuries are caused by the habitual way we use our bodies.

Our nervous system controls which muscles contract, when they relax, how we stand, and how we move.

The longer we live, the more we repeat certain movements and postures, and the more deeply these muscular patterns become ingrained.

Over time — through days, weeks, months, and years — these patterns become automatic. We stop thinking about them and no longer consciously perceive them. This is what we call muscle memory.

One of the essential somatic tasks throughout life is developing greater awareness and control over ourselves while learning to move through stress and trauma with fluidity and resilience — like a cork floating on ocean waves.

The key to success is our nervous system.

The key to success is our nervous system.

An undeniable fact is that some of these learned movement patterns are harmful to the body — such as prolonged slouching at a computer, looking down at a phone, or reading for long periods in unhealthy positions.

The only way to change these deeply ingrained muscular patterns is to retrain the nervous system.

Neuromuscular Somatic Therapy uses specific movement techniques that actively engage the nervous system in the learning process. These movement patterns teach the nervous system how to release accumulated tension and chronic muscular tightness, and how to stand and move naturally and efficiently without unnecessarily damaging the body or creating pain.

Neuromuscular Somatic Therapy uses a technique called pandiculation. Through this process, the nervous system is retrained and muscle memory is re-educated in order to release chronic muscular tension and transform harmful postural and movement habits.

Neuromuscular Somatic Therapy can help prevent, reduce, or completely eliminate a wide range of functional musculoskeletal problems caused by chronic muscular tension, poor posture, and habitual movement patterns.

It is significantly more effective than many other forms of therapy because it addresses the true root cause of most muscular and joint pain — the way the nervous system functions.

Most therapies aimed at treating chronic pain are passive, meaning that during the treatment you remain passive and do not actively move. The therapy is performed on you.

There is no doubt that passive therapies can feel pleasant and provide temporary relief. However, their effects usually last only hours or days because they do not create lasting changes within the nervous system.

To build new neural connections and create long-term change in the nervous system, active participation and conscious movement are essential. This is a crucial fact.

If only the symptoms are addressed, the results are usually temporary — or in the worst case, nonexistent.

Neuromuscular Somatic Therapy focuses on the true cause of pain by working with whole-body patterns of posture and movement. It is important to understand that no part of the body moves independently or in isolation from the rest. Every movement we make affects the entire body.

Whether you blink your eye or move a finger, your whole body is involved.

Believe it or not, knee pain may be connected to the way you use your entire body. If the goal is for the problem to truly disappear — not just its symptoms — the entire movement pattern must be addressed and re-educated.

Many pain therapies and treatments create dependency, whether through repeated visits to specialists or long-term use of medication.

Neuromuscular Somatic Therapy is based on the belief that every person has the ability — and should have the responsibility — to take care of their own health rather than becoming dependent on others.

Neuromuscular Somatic Therapy teaches you how to care for your movement system, release muscular tension, reduce pain, and retrain dysfunctional movement and postural patterns.

Daily practice is not only pleasant, relaxing, and stress-relieving — it also allows you to continuously improve your movement habits and care for your body throughout your entire life.

The nervous system learns only through conscious, active movement.

No technique performed on you or for you — whether massage or manual therapy — can create lasting change on its own.

Real transformation requires your active participation.

Real transformation requires your active participation.

Most pain-treatment approaches, whether medication or various forms of manual therapy, focus only on the symptoms of the problem.

Unfortunately, these methods often merely suppress the perception of pain or focus locally on the specific area where the pain is felt.

For example, if your back, hip, shoulder, or knee hurts, traditional approaches typically address only that particular area.

Somatic movement therapy, on the other hand, can be understood as a form of essential hygiene — something the body needs regularly, just like any other form of self-care.

When only symptoms are treated, the effects are unfortunately temporary or in the worst cases, nonexistent.

Questions & Answers

What do I need for Somatic movement therapy?

Mainly yourself — and curiosity to dive down the rabbit hole.

For each somatic therapy session, a quiet space is important. I recommend having approximately 3x3 meters available.

Somatic movement is performed primarily lying on the floor, sitting, and standing — meaning in low, mid, and high positions.

Personally, I do recommend practicing somatic movement directly on the floor to ensure the best sensory feedback and grounding, but a carpet or yoga mat is also perfectly fine.

Clothing should be comfortable and must not restrict movement. I recommend a short-sleeved t-shirt and long or short leggings or sweatpants.

Socks are only optional, so it’s good to have them available if needed, for better sliding when necessary.

Kind regards, Braňo.

The body knows — it just needs to be listened to.

How does online somatic therapy work?

Online somatic therapy takes place over the internet via a video call using available applications.

You can choose between Cal Video, Signal, FaceTime, WhatsApp, or Google Meet to ensure both quality and privacy.

These apps are free to download either through a web browser or as standalone applications via the app store on your computer, tablet, or mobile phone.
